What is VTAC?

The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) is a central office that manages some of the application processes for courses, scholarships and the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) at universities, TAFEs and independent tertiary colleges in Victoria (and a few outside of Victoria).

For more information on future student services and courses:

How do the COP changes affect the January offer round?

December is an additional round – we don't yet know how the changes will affect the January offer round, though it still remains a mandatory round.

For more information on future student services and courses:

Will my first preference still be considered if I receive an offer for a lower preference?

Yes, whether you're applying through VTAC or directly to Deakin, you may still be considered for your first or higher-preferred courses regardless of whether you've accepted, declined or deferred an offer for a lower preferred course.

For more information on future student services and courses:

What's an ATAR?

ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank) is the overall percentile ranking for students in their final year of secondary school in Australia that reflects the individual's performance comparative to other students in the same year (except for Queensland). The ATAR is a rank, not a score.

For more information on future student services and courses:

How is the ATAR calculated?

VTAC calculates the ATAR from an aggregate of the following: a student's best VTAC scaled study score in any English subject; plus the VTAC scaled study score of their next best three subjects; plus 10% of the VTAC scaled study score for a fifth and sixth subject (where available).

For more information on future student services and courses:

What's a study score?

A study score is a score of 0–50 that shows how a VCE student performed in a particular subject compared to other students in the same year across the state. It's calculated from the student's results in assessments and exams in that subject.

For more information on future student services and courses:

What's the difference between a raw score and a scaled study score?

The VCAA (Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority) sends each student's raw score per subject to VTAC where they're converted into scaled study scores. The scaled study scores are then used to calculate the student's ATAR. Raw scores are used in conjunction with prerequisites.

For more information on future student services and courses:

Will my raw scores or study scores be counted towards prerequisites?

Your raw scores are used to assess prerequisites. Your study scores show how you've performed in a particular subject compared to other students in the same year across the state.
