Melbourne
As one of the most popular cities in the world for international students, living in Melbourne means you will become a part of an international community. People from all over the world call the city their home. Enjoy live music at Federation Square, or ride a bike along the Yarra River trail. Visit the native animals at the Melbourne Zoo, or spend mornings exploring the Queen Victoria Market tasting fresh and local produce. With so much to see and do, you will never be bored in Melbourne.
Melbourne Burwood Campus
Our largest campus is in the suburb of Burwood, in Melbourne – Victoria’s capital city. Just a short trip from Melbourne’s central business district, Burwood offers the perfect balance between city lifestyle and suburban comfort. On campus you will find impressive buildings and world-class facilities, a wide range of learning and social spaces, and a relaxed atmosphere. If you enjoy getting outdoors between classes, the Melbourne Burwood Campus also sits alongside parkland, which is great for walking, jogging and cycling.
Geelong
Geelong is a remarkable city and the second-largest in the Australian state of Victoria. With its stunning beaches, relaxing lifestyle and buzzing business district, it is easy to see why more and more people are choosing to live, study and work in this thriving city. Just a short train or ferry ride from Melbourne, Geelong is located near some of Australia’s best surf beaches and world-famous tourist destinations.

Geelong Waterfront Campus
Located in the heart of Geelong, the Geelong Waterfront Campus has spectacular views of the bay. Used as wool stores in the 19th century, this campus has been renovated to create an impressive, modern space that offers an inspiring study environment. The unique mix of old and new allows for engaging and creative spaces, and its central location means students can visit Geelong’s central business district between classes.

Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus
At Deakin’s Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus, you are surrounded by expansive grounds and impressive new buildings. It offers state-of-the-art engineering, medical and sport facilities, as well as some of the most advanced research spaces in the world. The campus also features incredible sporting facilities, including Deakin’s Elite Regional Sports Precinct, which includes an Australian rules football oval, FIFA-grade soccer pitch, athletics track, basketball courts, and more.
Warrnambool
Warrnambool is Victoria’s fifth largest city and the largest town on the famous Great Ocean Road, just a few hours outside of Melbourne. The city's relaxed seaside vibe makes it an appealing place to call home, surrounded by stunning beaches and breathtaking views, wide-open spaces and fresh air. Warrnambool is known for being a safe place. The area also offers a range of restaurants and an extensive arts and cultural scene to keep our students entertained. For those looking for an occasional jolt of big city excitement, trains run four times a day to Melbourne.

Warrnambool Campus

Warrnambool might be a small town, but you will still experience the same world-class education, facilities and opportunities to gain practical experience.
Cloud Campus (online)
Choose online study at Deakin’s Cloud Campus and join our highly engaged, connected and motivated community of online students. Students who study online experience the same quality education as on-campus students. Studying online gives you access to classes, seminars and resources, allows you to participate in live-streaming seminars and class discussions, chat with staff and students and to submit assignments online. When, where and how you study is up to you.

Health and safety
Australia is a very safe place to live and study, with a low crime rate and reliable emergency services. Deakin offers a range of services to help you
stay healthy and safe, and to promote personal wellbeing. These include medical centres on all campuses, security officers on duty at all times, fitness and healthy food options, and a range of other support services.
Language
English is the language most commonly spoken in Australia, so having strong English language skills will help you not just in your studies but in your day to day life. You can choose to complete a course at the Deakin University English Language Institute (DUELI) if you need to improve your English for personal or professional reasons – and your time in Australia will be a great opportunity to improve your conversational English skills. As a multicultural nation, you will most likely hear many different languages being spoken in cities like Melbourne and Geelong.
Food in Australia
You will be able to find food from all over the world in Australia, including Asian and Indian supermarkets selling traditional ingredients.
And if you don’t cook, don’t worry – we have great food on campus (including vegetarian, vegan and halal options). Melbourne is world famous for its restaurants and cafes, and Geelong has a wide range of excellent multicultural options too.
Indigenous spiritual sites
Indigenous people have lived in Australia for tens of thousands of years. Many of Australia’s beautiful natural places are also important Indigenous spiritual sites. If you are visiting any of these sites, please be respectful and observe local customs.
Wildlife
You will have plenty of opportunities to see our unique wildlife while you are here – whether it’s a visit to a zoo or sanctuary or time spent exploring our great wilderness.
If you do see animals in the wild, it is very important not to touch or approach them. Some of our snakes and spiders are venomous – that means they could make you sick if you are bitten. They mostly live in bushland, but you might occasionally see a spider in a house or outdoors. Make sure you wear protective footwear if you go bushwalking and stick to designated walking tracks.
Weather
While most of Australia is hot and dry, our coastal areas (including Melbourne, Geelong and Warrnambool) can be cold between May and September.
You will need light clothes for summer and will need to look after yourself on hot days by drinking plenty of water, wearing SPF30+ sunscreen and a hat. In winter you will need a warm coat.
Melbourne in particular is famous for its quick change of weather in a single day. It is a good idea to have an umbrella in your bag and wear layers of clothing when you go out.

Religion in Australia
Australia is home to many different religions and we have churches, mosques and spiritual centres in cities and towns all over the country.
We are also proud to have prayer rooms and multifaith chaplains at each of our campuses. You don’t need to be religious to talk to a chaplain – they offer advice and guidance to all our students.
