We’ve initiated a range of COVID-19 research projects across the University, in partnership with industry and other institutions in response to the pandemic.
Our research explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health and wellbeing of our communities, the development of new technology and our society.
Improving health and wellbeing
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the health and wellbeing of us all, from our physical and mental health, to the increased burden on our healthcare workers and health systems. Our researchers are working to generate new knowledge about COVID-19 and how we can best respond to the pandemic’s impact on all aspects of health and wellbeing, as well as contributing evidence-based advice and commentary to policy development and public debate.
Designing smarter technology
Smart technology has already helped us in many ways during COVID-19, allowing us to stay connected while in isolation and helping many industries to adapt quickly to the impacts on their business models. Developing skills and technologies that will deliver progress, not just change, will be even more important as we emerge from the pandemic.
Building safe and secure communities
The impact of the pandemic on our daily lives highlights where work is needed to ensure our communities function safely, from access to vital supplies of medical equipment and medications, food and other essentials, to issues of security.
Advancing society and culture
COVID-19 has changed the way we live and relate to each other and highlighted the best and worst of societies around the world. Our researchers are bringing fresh insight to what can be learnt from the pandemic and how it can inform life beyond COVID-19.
Enabling a sustainable world
COVID-19 lockdowns were hailed as a chance for our environment to reset. But was that really the case? Our researchers are looking at the pandemic’s impact on our environment and how it will guide future sustainability planning.
Alfred Deakin Professor Catherine Bennett
