Postgraduate applications

With three intakes each year, there are always options to apply for postgraduate study and commence your course at Deakin. Applying for an online course? The process is exactly the same.

Find a course in four steps

Use our course finder to browse our full range of postgraduate courses and discover which one suits your interests and goals.

A postgraduate qualification can be undertaken by students who have already completed an undergraduate degree or possess significant, demonstrable work experience. Postgraduate courses include graduate certificates, graduate diplomas, masters and PhDs, as well as specialist programs for industry professionals.

Deakin also offers higher degrees by research (HDR) that empower you to become an expert in your field and contribute to the strengthening academic ties to industry and communities.

If you’re interested in a particular postgraduate study area such as law, business, arts or engineering, explore your interest area or search for courses by name. On each course page, you’ll find information such as entry requirements, professional recognition, career opportunities, course structure, fees and much more.

Understanding entry requirements

Before starting your application, it’s important to read through the entry requirements on the course page. Examples of entry requirements include a relevant bachelor degree, English language requirements and special criteria. If you can tick off each entry requirement, you can confidently move onto the next stage of preparing your application.

Supporting documents

When applying for a course, you’ll need to submit documents to support your application. Since documents will vary depending on the course, you should read the course details page carefully to understand the entry requirements and any supporting information required upon application.

Examples could include your resume, a transcript of previous study, test results, a personal statement, identification documents or a folio of work. If your documents aren't in English, you’ll need to supply a certified English translation.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL)

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is Deakin’s way of recognising the hard work you’ve already put into your studies or career. Through RPL you may be able to have your work and study experience recognised with course credit points, reducing your course duration and tuition costs.

Use our RPL calculator to learn what credit you might be eligible for at Deakin. Please note, this is an indication only and if your institution isn’t listed it’s still possible to receive credit. We can only confirm your RPL when you submit your application.

Deakin alumni discount

If you’re a Deakin alumni commencing a postgraduate course, you may be eligible to receive a 10% reduction per unit on enrolment fees through the Deakin alumni discount.
