Sport has always been at the heart of Deakin, and is one of our greatest strengths. We have a variety of facilities across our campuses, including gyms, fitness classes, basketball courts and sports ovals.

DeakinACTIVE

DeakinACTIVE is the new home of sport, health and wellbeing at Deakin. Whether it’s working out in the fitness centre, going for a run, joining a group fitness class, playing your favourite sport or healthy eating, DeakinACTIVE will help you achieve your goals. We promote an integrated approach to wellness, involving many different types of activities, so you can have a healthy lifestyle and succeed at your studies and beyond.

Featuring gyms with state-of-the-art Technogym machines, group fitness classes, social sport teams and stadium courts and fields for use and hire, there's something to help you reach your fitness goals. We even have an app – Deakin Moves – that includes programs, challenges and a workout tracker to keep you on track to reach your fitness goals.

  • a gym with 300 square metres of floor space, bikes, treadmills, weights and plasma screens
  • group fitness classes (including our half-hour Express Lunch class)
  • a stadium with two basketball courts
  • a football field
  • a general-purpose field.

DeakinACTIVE Waurn Ponds includes:

  • a gym with 290 square metres of floor space, a cycle room and a cardio room
  • group fitness classes
  • a stadium with two basketball/multipurpose courts
  • the Elite Regional Sports Precinct.

Geelong Waterfront

There are plenty of gyms and centres within a short walk of our Waterfront campus. There's also a free shuttle-bus running all day to and from Waurn Ponds, so you can easily take advantage of our great sport facilities and fitness centre there. Group fitness classes, including yoga and bootcamp, are run three times a week on campus and in the Steampacket Gardens.

DeakinACTIVE Warrnambool includes:

  • a fully equipped gym with weights and cardio equipment
  • an oval with floodlights and pavilion
  • two multipurpose courts that can be used for tennis, netball or basketball.

Elite Regional Sports Precinct

The Elite Regional Sports Precinct is a collection of facilities that support the activities of a wide range of users, from elite athletes like the Geelong Cats AFL team to student-based clubs like the Deakin Ducks Soccer Club. There's an MCG-size AFL oval, a 50-metre long-jump track and sandpits and basketball and netball courts.

Deakin Dragons

Interested in competing for Deakin University? You could be a Deakin Dragon. The Deakin Dragons compete across a range of different sports in national and local competitions, including the Australian University Games and UniBattle.

The Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU) is a program designed to help students balance study, training and competition. That means that as an elite athlete, you'll be able access resources to help you manage your sporting and academic commitments when there are conflicts or increased demands.
